Ways to Save Fuel This Summer

While many of us love summer road trips and weekend adventures, one thing we don’t love is frequent trips to the gas station. Luckily, there are many ways you can save fuel. From practicing safe driving to properly inflated tires, there are simple steps you can take to ensure you have more time to spend doing the things you love this summer.

Drive Smart

Practicing safe driving is something we all should do every time we get behind the wheel. Not only does it make our roads safer, but it can also save fuel. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, aggressive driving, constantly starting and stopping, rapid acceleration and driving at high speeds can all lower your gas mileage by roughly 15 to 30 mpercent at highway speeds and 10 to 40 percent in stop-and-go traffic.

Remember Regular Car Maintenance

Your vehicle is built to last, but it does require regular maintenance from time to time such as oil changes and tire rotations. If your vehicle has old or dirty oil or needs a Ford parts replacement, then it is usually working harder than it should and burning extra fuel. Save money and time down the road by sticking to a regular maintenance schedule.

Ensure Your Tires Are Properly Inflated

When your tires are poorly inflated they are unable to make correct contact with the road. This increases friction and therefore fuel consumption. By properly inflating your tires, you ensure your vehicle has the best possible contact with the road.

Be Efficient

Try to avoid multiple car journeys if you can. Combine errands into one afternoon and download a mapping app to ensure you have the shortest possible route.

Turn Off Your Air Conditioning

This can be difficult as we move into soaring temperatures, but when possible, turn off your air conditioning to save gas.

From all of us at Hall Ford Elizabeth City, we hope you enjoy the summer months ahead in the Outer Banks, NC, and surrounding areas!
