Here in the Woodville, NC area, winter hasn’t quite hit our area yet, but the temperatures are beginning to drop, and it is best to be prepared for icy roads and cold temperatures when they arrive. Proper car care is one of the best ways to ensure safety when driving in the winter, and here in our Ford service center, our team of mechanics is ready to get your car into top condition for the oncoming winter season. Here are a few of the things that we will check.

Battery: Cold weather is tough on the battery of your new Ford car in Elizabeth City. Before heading out into the cold, have a mechanic check the battery and charging system for optimum performance. Batteries do not always give warning signs before they are about to fail, so it is advisable to check and possibly replace batteries that are older than three to five years.

Brakes: Functioning brakes are an absolute necessity when it comes to stopping on icy roads, which is why it's important to make sure to have your brake system checked, including the brake pads, rotors, and calipers.

Antifreeze: Antifreeze is the liquid under the hood that prevents your engine parts from freezing. It should be flushed and refilled at least every two years in most vehicles, and optimally, antifreeze should be mixed with water in a 50/50 ratio.

Tires: When checking the tires, our mechanics will be sure to inspect the tread depth and tire pressure, including that of the spare. During the winter, tire pressure should be checked weekly as lower temperatures cause tire pressure to decrease.

Before winter hits, schedule a service appointment with our expert mechanics here at Hall Ford Elizabeth City. We look forward to working with you soon!
